I am a 38 year old american woman. I stayed in Dakar for one month and it is a modern, safe city full of intelligent people. It is a shame that we only hear about the crime and tragedies in Africa because there is so much beauty and culture, spiritualiy and wisdom. Of course there are dangers, you must ask local people where it is safe to go and don't run around alone at night on dark streets. Have fun! I traveled all across Africa by myself.
